Chakra Balancing for Beginners: 7 Stones to Clear the Weight You Didn't Know You Were Carrying

Maybe you’ve been carrying more than your own life.
The pressure to be strong. The family rule that says you must stay quiet. The fear of disappointing everyone. The grief no one talks about. The exhaustion that settles into your shoulders before the day has even begun.
Sometimes the weight is emotional. Sometimes it feels spiritual. Sometimes it lives in your body as tension, restlessness, numbness, or the sense that you’re moving through life slightly disconnected from yourself.
Chakra balancing offers a gentle map for exploring these experiences. Crystals can become small, beautiful anchors along the way.
Not because you are broken and need fixing.
Because you are worthy of support as you return to your own natural flow.
begin with permission
In many yoga and spiritual traditions, the chakras are understood as seven subtle energy centers along the body, from the base of the spine to the crown of the head. Each one is associated with different emotional themes, such as safety, creativity, confidence, love, communication, intuition, and spiritual connection.
From a Western medical perspective, chakras aren’t recognized as physical structures. Still, the framework can be meaningful as a tool for reflection, meditation, breathwork, and body awareness. Cleveland Clinic explains that chakra practices may help people feel centered, while also noting that the energy centers themselves aren’t scientifically verified.
That distinction matters to us.
We can honor sacred tradition and remain grounded in what research does, and doesn’t, show. Meditation, intentional breathing, mindful movement, music, and supportive human connection can all help us slow down and notice what we’re carrying.
The stone becomes a reminder.
The breath becomes a doorway.
Your awareness becomes the beginning.

your body remembers
I came to this work through my own process of remembering.
I survived a marriage that wasn’t loving me back, a workplace that mistook my power for a problem, and serious health challenges, including eight strokes and a heart attack. What helped bring me toward the other side wasn’t more striving. It was sound. It was my ancestors. It was the decision to stop shrinking and begin remembering who I actually am.
That journey became part of the foundation for The Ancestral Alchemist.
Over more than 10 years of practice, I’ve served more than 20,000 women. I’ve learned that healing rarely looks like becoming someone new. More often, it feels like setting down what was never yours to carry.
Chakra work can offer language for that release.
You might explore the root when you’re working with inherited fear or scarcity. The throat when your family taught you not to speak. The heart when old grief has made receiving love feel unsafe.
You don’t have to force an answer.
You can simply listen.
the 7 stones and the wisdom they invite
There are many crystal traditions and many ways to work with each chakra. Think of the pairings below as invitations, not strict rules. The “right” crystal is often the one you feel naturally drawn toward, the one whose color, texture, or presence helps you stay connected to your intention.
1. Root chakra: Smoky Quartz
Themes: safety, grounding, belonging, stability
Color: red
Location: base of the spine
Smoky quartz is a beautiful companion when you feel scattered, overstretched, or pulled into everyone else’s needs. Its earthy color and weight can remind you to come back to the present moment.
If your family line carries stories of survival, displacement, financial fear, or constant vigilance, root-focused reflection may feel especially supportive.
How to use it:
Hold smoky quartz in both hands while taking five slow breaths.
Place it beside your bed or near your front door as a reminder of grounded arrival.
Journal: What helps me feel safe enough to soften?
Affirmation:
I am allowed to feel supported. I belong here.
2. Sacral chakra: Carnelian
Themes: emotions, pleasure, creativity, sensuality
Color: orange
Location: below the navel
The sacral chakra is often connected with emotional flow and creative life force. Carnelian’s warm orange color makes it a natural ritual companion when you feel numb, uninspired, or disconnected from pleasure.
For many women, this area of healing touches inherited beliefs about desire, sexuality, rest, and whether it’s safe to enjoy life.
You don’t have to earn pleasure.
How to use it:
Hold carnelian while listening to music or moving your body gently.
Place it near your journal as you write uncensored feelings.
Ask yourself: What would feel nourishing, not productive, today?
Affirmation:
My feelings are welcome. My pleasure is sacred.
3. Solar plexus chakra: Citrine
Themes: confidence, boundaries, personal power
Color: yellow
Location: upper abdomen
Citrine can serve as a bright reminder of your inner authority. Work with it when you’re practicing saying no, making a decision, or releasing the habit of over-explaining yourself.
Perhaps your family taught you that being loved meant being agreeable. Perhaps you inherited the role of peacekeeper, caretaker, or dependable one.
You can love your family and still choose a new pattern.
How to use it:
Place citrine near your solar plexus during a short meditation.
Hold it before a conversation where you need to speak clearly.
Write one boundary you’re ready to honor this week.
Affirmation:
My needs matter. I trust myself to choose what is right for me.
4. Heart chakra: Rose Quartz
Themes: compassion, grief, connection, self-love
Color: green or soft pink
Location: center of the chest
Rose quartz is one of the most beloved stones for heart-centered rituals. Its soft color and smooth surface invite tenderness, especially when you’ve been hard on yourself for a very long time.
Heart work doesn’t mean forcing forgiveness. It doesn’t mean pretending the past didn’t hurt.
Sometimes opening begins with saying: That was painful, and I deserved care.
How to use it:
Rest rose quartz over your heart while breathing slowly.
Hold it as you write a compassionate letter to your younger self.
Place it beside a candle while naming one form of love you’re ready to receive.
Affirmation:
I honor my heart. I am worthy of gentle love.
> “I didn’t know I was allowed to feel this free.”
This is one of the most consistent reflections women share after spending time in our healing spaces. Not because we promise to erase their stories, but because something inside them begins to feel spacious enough to breathe again.
5. Throat chakra: Blue Lace Agate
Themes: communication, truth, self-expression
Color: blue
Location: throat
Blue lace agate can be a comforting stone to hold when you’re preparing to have an honest conversation or reconnect with your own voice.
In some families, silence is treated as protection. Certain subjects are avoided. Feelings are swallowed. You learn to read the room before you learn to name what you need.
Your voice is not a burden.
How to use it:
Hold blue lace agate while humming softly or chanting.
Keep it near your journal and complete the sentence: What I really want to say is…
Practice one clear “I” statement without apology.
Affirmation:
My truth can be spoken with care. My voice belongs to me.
6. Third-eye chakra: Amethyst
Themes: intuition, clarity, inner knowing
Color: indigo
Location: between the eyebrows
Amethyst is often used in practices focused on quiet, insight, and spiritual connection. It may be a helpful companion when your thoughts feel noisy or when you’re struggling to distinguish intuition from fear.
You don’t need to force a vision or receive a dramatic sign. Sometimes intuition arrives as a subtle sense of ease. Sometimes it’s the quiet knowing that says, This is no longer for me.
How to use it:
Place amethyst beside you during meditation.
Hold it while taking a break from your phone and sitting in silence.
Ask: What do I know when I stop asking everyone else?
Affirmation:
I listen inward. Clarity can arrive gently.

7. Crown chakra: Clear Quartz
Themes: meaning, spiritual connection, perspective
Color: violet or white
Location: crown of the head
Clear quartz is commonly associated with clarity and connection to something larger than the individual self. Use it when you’re reflecting on purpose, prayer, ancestry, or the wisdom you want to carry forward.
Crown work isn’t about leaving your body or escaping ordinary life. It can be about bringing a little more meaning into the ordinary: your morning tea, your relationships, your choices, your rest.
The sacred is allowed to be practical.
How to use it:
Place clear quartz on your altar or beside a meaningful photograph.
Sit quietly with it and name three values you want to live by.
Close your practice with gratitude for the ancestors, teachers, and experiences that helped you arrive here.
Affirmation:
I am connected. I am guided. I am already whole.
a simple 10-minute chakra ritual
You don’t need an elaborate altar or a full collection of stones. Begin with one crystal and a few uninterrupted minutes.
Create a soft landing.
Sit somewhere comfortable. Light a candle if you’d like. Keep water nearby.Choose your stone.
Let your attention guide you. Notice its color, temperature, weight, and texture.Breathe before you interpret.
Take five slow breaths. Inhale gently. Exhale without forcing.Bring awareness to the chakra theme.
Ask what you’re noticing around safety, pleasure, power, love, voice, intuition, or connection.Name what you’re ready to set down.
You might say: I release the belief that I must carry this alone.Choose what you’re ready to receive.
Let the answer be simple: rest, support, clarity, permission, softness.Close with your affirmation.
Repeat it three times, then return slowly to the room.
You’re not trying to make anything happen.
You’re making space to notice what is already moving.
what crystals can, and can’t, do
Crystals are not a replacement for medical care, therapy, medication, or crisis support. There is no strong scientific evidence that crystals emit unique healing energies or that chakra balancing treats a medical condition.
What crystals can offer is a tangible focus for attention, ritual, and intention. Holding a smooth stone may help you pause. Its color may help you remember an affirmation. Its presence may mark a moment when you choose to care for yourself.
That support can be meaningful.
At The Ancestral Alchemist, chakra and crystal work is offered as complementary spiritual wellbeing support. It sits alongside grounded practices such as breath, meditation, sound, reflection, and compassionate presence, not in place of regulated professional care.
If you’re experiencing significant emotional distress, trauma symptoms, or a health concern, please work with a licensed healthcare or mental-health professional.
you don’t have to do this alone
Sometimes you know which chakra needs attention. Sometimes everything feels tender, and you’d rather be guided.
Our Chakras + Crystals healing service creates an intentional space to explore your seven energy centers, notice where life feels stagnant, and use crystals as supportive tools for natural flow.
You can also book a Discovery Call with me. This complimentary Zoom conversation gives us time to meet, talk about your goals, and experience a mini sound healing session together.
Before the call, prepare a candle, any crystals you already have, a small bowl of water, a beverage, and a journal. Nothing needs to be perfect.
Just make room for yourself.
You can also visit The Ancestral Alchemist to explore sound baths, Reiki, upcoming events, and the free Science of Sound resource with its seven-minute Chakra Alignment Soundscape.
Come as you are.
You are enough as you are. You have more within you than the weight you’ve been carrying. And the path back to yourself can begin with one breath, one stone, one honest moment.
You are not becoming whole. You are remembering that you already are.
